Job Duties
- Develop innovative products based on natural polymers (cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin);
- Collaborate with chemists and lab technicians to develop and test innovative wood adhesive, water adsorbing materials, foam insulation materials, and UV coatings;
- Participate in aspects of complex problem solving and materials development;
- Maintain precise and detailed laboratory records and write reports and research summaries as required;
- Analyze and present findings; assume responsibility for project documentation including reports, invention disclosures, etc.;
- Conduct chemical analysis to ensure quality control of raw materials, chemical intermediates or final products;
- Conduct material characterization following ASTM standards;
- Participate in intellectual property creation and maintain absolute confidentiality;
- Participate in investigations into product failure. Ensure involvement in all trouble-shooting activities;
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience in adhesives or coatings or other related fields;
- Masters in polymer chemistry or chemical engineering;
- PhD in polymer chemistry considered an asset, but not required;
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PPT, Projects, etc);
- Familiar with laboratory analytical instruments (IR, NMR, GC-MS, DSC, TGA, GPC, etc.) and know how interpret analytical results;
- Passionate about chemical research;
- Strong technical and analytical skills with solid understanding of research methodologies;
- Must be flexible, excellent attention to detail and have a hands-on approach;
- Ability to keep all trade secrets, patents, and proprietary information in strictest confidence;
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Able to work independently and as a part of a team
Experience:
- Natural polymers, UV curable polymers, foam materials, adhesives, wood products 1-5 years (Preferred)
- chemistry: 1-5 years (Preferred)
- polymer chemistry: 1-5 years (Preferred)
