Job Description:

Job duties:

-Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children

-Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest, provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity

-Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits

-Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor

-Knowledge of Daycare Services Act

-Knowledge of licensing regulations

-Establish guidelines for behaviour

-Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children

-Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children

-Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members

-Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers

-Order supplies and equipment

-Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties

-Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children

-Maintain folder for each child

-Treat each child with dignity and respect for his/her cultural background

-Interact with each child on a daily basis through circle time, center play and feeding time

-Plan and conduct an effective child development program to meet the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of each child

-Ensure that childcare routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent. This includes routines related to diapering, handwashing, eating, napping, and transitioning between activities

-Provide a variety of language stimulation activities

-Ensure that parents receive adequate information about their child’s experiences at the center “Hi Mama” and daily communication

-Greet infants and their parents warmly and with enthusiasm each morning

-Initiate classroom activities daily (sing-a-longs, art projects, sensory exploration, outdoor stimulation)

-Observe children to detect signs of illness, injury, abuse, neglect, emotional disturbance, or other special needs, and report these signs immediately to the manager

-Keeping physical environment clean and orderly

-Work as a member of team to ensure continuity and a high standard of quality in all

 

Requirements:

- Education: A bachelor's degree or college diploma is required

- Experience: Experience an asset

- Valid ECE license is required

- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and valid First Aid Certificate is required

- Must have a warm and supportive attitude and disposition toward working with children and their families

- Must be reliable, flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program

- Must be willing to accept supervision in order to improve work performance

- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

- Must be physically able to perform the job of a teacher for young children

 

Early Childhood Educator Assistant Skills

Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings; Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers; Support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children; Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts; Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods; Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors

 

Additional Skills

Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers; Order supplies and equipment; Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties; Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records; Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children; Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours; Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants

 

Salary:

$18.00 CAD ~ $20.00 CAD hourly (plus BC Early Childhood Educator wage enhancement - $2.00 CAD)

- Operation hours: 7:00 to 18:00

- Required to work 8 hours a day (40 hours a week) with 1 hour unpaid lunch break
