Role and Responsibility

  1. Counsel students regarding the high school going processes and procedures including course selection, attendance problems, scheduling, adjustment, etc.
  2. Assist students in navigating barriers to enrollment including becoming financial aid eligible and developing a timeline for applications and enrollment.
  3. Manage and co-ordinate study groups or workshops for our students related to course-taking, examination preparation and time management skills.
  4. Review and evaluate applications; interview students and families as part of the application process when needed; refer students to other services or agencies if needed.
  5. Participate and present at case conferences and supervision meetings and coordinate services and support across units.
  6. Work with team to regularly review relevant program data to assess trends and improve outcomes.
  7. Assist in providing guidance to other academic advisors.
  8. Establish and maintain rapport with high school counselors and administrators.
  9. Manage additional projects that will support student engagement and opportunity.
  10. Document all work with students into a database on a regular basis.

Requirement

  1. A bachelor’s degree in counselling, career development, education or related fields is required; higher education will be an asset; a license from a provincial regulatory body, educational counsellors or social workers will be an asset.
  2. A minimum of one year of professional experience related to education, teaching, counselling, etc.
  3. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  4. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships, both internally and externally.
  5. Ability to counsel students in areas of program and other educational requirements.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent listening skills and ability to empathize.
  7. Experience in Microsoft Office or other similar software applications is required.
  8. Strong time management skills.

Job Types:

  • Full-time, Permanent

Salary:

  • $37.00 per hour, 35 hour per week, 52 weeks per year
