Early Childhood Assistant (NOC 42202)

 

 

Wage:   $20.50 per hour (full-time permanent position; 40 hours per week)

Location of Work:Simplysmart Day Care & Montessori, 407 Iroquois Shore Rd., Oakville, ON

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
• Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts
• Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
• Assist with proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
• Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors
• Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties
• Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
• May assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records.
• Assist in conducting parent/teacher interviews
• Assist in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with students, parents and coworkers;
• Participate in school special activities and celebrations
• Assist in following and implementing health and safety through the use of a variety of tools including daily observation forms, sanitary practices forms, medication forms, and the environmental assessment tools

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Completion of secondary school
• 1 year minimum of experience in child care
• High standard of professionalism
• Enthusiasm for serving public ensuring that all children & clients are cared for equally & in accordance with SimplySmart standards
• Excellent communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and respond appropriately to client and children’s needs
• High energy level with a strong work ethic
• Excellent organization skills to prioritize workload in order to achieve results in a constantly changing environment
• Ability to safeguard confidential information
• A police vulnerable sector check & verification of medical suitability will be required as specified in the Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA)
• Ability to work shifts (7am to 6pm)
• Standard First Aid CPR C+
• Immunization up to date (including a 2 step TB test)
• Food handlers’ certificate (preferred)
