Nature of position: Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Wage: $84,377 per annum
Vacation: 62 days – the paid vacation time follows school calendar (September to June) with 2 weeks off for winter break, 1 week for spring break, 5 break days during the year and July-August off

Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Team Lead, Centre Based Programs, the Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) has the primary responsibility of providing listening and spoken language intervention services to families and students with hearing loss enrolled in the Early Learning Program and Primary Programs (if applicable) at the Centre. Additional duties include formal and informal assessment, report writing, consultation and collaboration with classroom teachers and support staff, and other tasks as assigned. The SLP will abide by CHSC Code of Ethics and apply best practices as outlined in CHSC policy and by the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC.

REQUIREMENTS. The successful applicant will possess, at a minimum, the following skills and experience:

Skills and Attributes:
• Ability to collaborate closely with other health and educational professionals (e.g., Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Occupational Therapists, Early Childhood Educators, Audiologist)
• Ability to work directly with parents and families to support parent education and coaching of language development strategies
• Strong written and verbal English skills in order to write assessment reports, present findings to families and educational teams, make recommendations to parents and families, refer to external agencies, and write goal plans for students
• Familiarity with relevant standardized assessment tools (e.g., PLS-5, CELF-P3, CELF-5, GFTA-3)
• Ability to use and analyze informal assessment measures such as language sampling, clinical observations and play-based assessments
• Organized and efficient time-management skills to support caseload demands and track various funding models
• Ability to maintain robust data collection measure outcomes for intervention goals
• Participating in educational rounds with school-based team
• Knowledge of best practices in working with children with complex needs and/or additional diagnoses
• Knowledge of best practices in AAC assessment and implementation (familiarity with Touch Chat, TD Snap, and low-tech AAC are an asset)
• Familiarity with hearing devices (hearing aids, cochlear implants, BAHAs) and equipment troubleshooting is strongly preferred
• Understanding of impact of hearing loss on early childhood development and language outcomes is strongly preferred
